Tamar Valley Line
Take a window seat on The Tamar Valley Line and enjoy rolling countryside, sleepy villages, and tranquil river crossings. Across the viaduct, explore the village of Calstock, with its great pubs and ice cream parlour.
This scenic train journey is one of the gems of Britain’s rail network. Linking city, river, and beautiful countryside through an area of outstanding natural beauty, and one of Britain’s National Landscapes. The line packs a huge amount into its fifteen-mile length, not least the spectacular viaduct at Calstock. Arguably the highlight of the journey is when the train slowly creeps slowly along the Calstock viaduct, 120 feet above the river below. Look closely out of the window and see the National Trust house Cotehele nestled in the woods.
There are lots of great walks from each of the stations along the line, and what’s more the trains are dog-friendly.
Another great day trip idea is to follow the Rail Ale Trail. This trail features local pubs easily accessible from stations along the Tamar Valley Line where you can enjoy a pint a drink and a short walk.
