View towards Calstock and the magnificent railway viaduct

Welcome to Calstock

Calstock sits just 12 miles up the river from Plymouth and is a pretty village to explore.  Picturesque cottages line the narrow streets and it’s sleepy riverside location make for a relaxing day out.

Despite it’s quiet modern persona, Calstock was once an industrial hub. Old engine houses dotted about being the only real nod to its thriving past.  At one time tin, copper, silver and granite were mined here, transported from the town’s quay to where it was needed.

A much more sedate Calstock sits on the river banks these days.

An absolute Calstock must see is the spectacular 120 foot viaduct which forms part of one of the country’s most beautiful railway journeys through the Tamar Valley.
