Sterts Theatre Company present the ultimate feel-good show. This modern-day Winter classic is sure to make everyone celebrate Christmas by embracing their inner Elf.
Based on the hit film, Elf the Musical is the hilarious story of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list, and his step-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Event Details
Nationally acclaimed folk trio The Wilderness Yet have established a growing reputation for their detailed arrangements and flawless close–knit harmony singing.
The trio combines the clear, charismatic vocals of former BBC Young Folk Award finalist Rosie Hodgson with the fine, sensitive fiddling of Rowan Piggott and the deft guitar and flute playing of Philippe Barnes. Independently, they have earned audiences’ esteem as consummate musicians; together, they weave an eclectic tapestry of traditional and original songs and tunes, from a cappella three–part harmonies to luscious instrumental arrangements.
The band’s eponymous debut album was released in 2020 to critical acclaim, and was closely followed by John O Dreams, an EP of commissioned covers. Their latest studio album, What Holds The World Together, was released in July 2022, with airplay on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 6 and an entry in the Official Folk Albums Chart Top 40.

Join us as we learn about fisheries, dams and barriers with Director of Operations, Dr Bruce Stockley from Westcountry Rivers Trust.
The Westcountry Rivers Trust have been involved in restoring and protecting the water environment in the Westcountry for over 25 years.
In this talk we will hear from Dr Bruce Stockley, Director of Operations who has spent many years restoring rivers in the southwest. He works hard to make our rivers a better place for fish to live in, and for people to enjoy.
Topics to be discussed include fisheries – what they do, the work needed to maintain them, and how they fit into the river landscape. As well as dams and barriers – what they are and how they influence habitats.
The talk will be held in person at Tamar Valley Centre in Gunnislake (Cemetery Road, Drakewalls PL18 9FE). There is enough seating for 50 people.
This is a free talk made possible with the help of the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Please see our other Tamar Talks in this series here.

Event Details
Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team (DSRT) Tavistock is hosting the 5th 11 Tors Challenge Walk on Saturday 17th September 2022. This charity walk helps us raise much needed funds for the Team.
In 2022, we need to raise £65,000 for an additional building for our Rescue Centre, and vital redevelopments to be made to the current building.
Our additional building will house our three Rescue Vehicles, and the redevelopments which will be made to the existing building will allow for improved storage of life-saving equipment for deployment by the hill party teams. To see more about this Appeal, please go to our website.
Love Dartmoor? Love to Walk?
Join us for either the main 11 mile – 11Tor Challenge Walk or the shorter 5 mile Family Challenge. The walks start and end at Princetown, in the heart of Dartmoor, with DSRT Personnel at every checkpoint.
The walks are open to everyone in teams of any size. Entry is £11 per adult and £4 per child in a family group. Well-behaved dogs are welcome team members too. The money we raise will go towards our Rescue Centre rebuild appeal.
We’ll be having a BBQ afterwards until 14:30 thanks to The Lions Club of Tavistock, and there are pubs/cafes/ice cream huts you can visit, too, including; The Ramblers Rest, Fox Tor Cafe, Dewerstone Cafe, The Prince of Wales, and others!

Join us on Wednesday 11th October as we welcome back Tavistock’s fun packed family day out!
The annual Goose Fair in Tavistock dates back to the early 12th Century, and now the Fair is held on the second Wednesday in October each year.
Market traders come from all over the country to sell their wares and provide entertainment. Stalls and side shows are set up in the centre of the Town, and some 200 spaces are let by the Town Council for traders and community groups. Further spaces in Bedford Car Park are let to members of the Showman’s Guild by West Devon Borough Council with the car park being shut for the whole Goose Fair week.
