Chanel Performance

In this section, you can find out how our marketing channels are performing. We’ve slightly updated the way we present the information so that it can be compared with the same period in previous years. This helps us to see not only where we are now, but also how things are changing over time.

Website

For the website, we’ve chosen to focus on four key metrics:

  • Active Users – this shows how many individual people are visiting the site within a set period. It gives us a sense of how many different people we are reaching.

  • Sessions – this tells us how many times the site has been used. One person might visit multiple times, so this figure helps us understand repeat engagement.

  • Views – this counts the number of pages people look at across the site. It’s a good indicator of whether visitors are browsing widely or just looking at one or two pages.

  • Session Duration – this is the average length of time people spend on the site during a visit. Longer sessions often suggest that people are finding the content interesting and useful.

These measures are important because they show not just how many people are coming to the website, but also how they are interacting with it. To make the most of this, it’s essential that our listing pages are kept up to date, special offers are published promptly, and events are added to the “What’s On” section. Fresh, accurate content helps keep visitors engaged and encourages them to return.

Social Media

For our social media channels, we’ve focused on the metrics that give the clearest picture of how well our content is performing and how audiences are engaging with it.

NB: We’re unable to collect interaction data from groups, and detailed insights are only available from 21st August 2024 onwards.

On Facebook and Instagram, the most useful measures are:

  • Views – shows the number of times that content was played or displayed. Content includes reels, posts, stories and ads.

  • Engagements – this includes likes, comments, shares and saves. High engagement means people aren’t just seeing our content, but actively interacting with it.

  • Follower Growth – this tracks how many new people are choosing to follow us. It’s a simple measure of how our audience is expanding over time.

  • Post Interactions (Clicks/Taps) – this shows when people click through to links, expand images, or tap on tagged accounts. It indicates whether our posts are prompting action beyond just scrolling past.

These metrics together give a good balance between visibility (how many people see our content) and impact (how many people choose to interact with it).

Member Event September 2025

Last Wednesday 17th September, we gathered at the Lewtrenchard Manor near Okehampton for a lovely afternoon of chat and cream teas. Our Chair Simon Hirsh welcomed everyone with a Visit Tamar Valley update, followed by a presentation from Sarah Bartlett packed with good news about audience growth and website usage.

Nicola from I love Cornwall spoke about a brand new collaboration with VTV and Kim Spencer from the South East Cornwall Tourism Association gave the latest on LVEP in Cornwall.

After the presentations, we all headed to the dining room for tasty scones and lashings of jam and cream, all washed down with tea and coffee 😋 Chrissie Le Marchant brought the afternoon to a close with a tour of the nearby church and forgotten gardens.

You can view and/or download the presentations below.

A Year in Brief 2023-2024

Visit Tamar Valley works in partnership with the Tamar Valley National Landscape to deliver The Tamara Landscape Partnership Scheme’s (TLP) Come Visit Stay Awhile project.  TLP is a 5-year project with 10 key focuses and its aim is to enhance the Tamar Valley for both residents and visitors alike.

Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Funding, funds have been allocated to:

– Further developing a fully resourced-destination website
– Proactively marketing the Tamar Valley as a place to visit
– Promoting hospitality and tourism businesses in the area
– Creating opportunities for local people to become involved in the industry
– Upskilling local businesses through workshops and training
– Creating a dedicated B2B support hub for local business owners
– And generating a tangible positive impact on the local economy as a whole

Visit Tamar Valley is now delivering the final project year. We’ve created this graphic to summarise 2024. The infographic also provides some insight on audience growth.
