Beautifully situated right on the Devon bank of the Tamar River at Weir Quay, The Basket Factory is a perfect B&B for couples and singles seeking a quiet stay in a special and often forgotten neck of the woods.
An attractive stone and slate home, dating from 1851, The Basket Factory offers stylish and comfortable B & B accommodation either in the en-suite double (bath only) or in the twin room (own bathroom, bath and shower).
Generous full breakfasts include free-range eggs and homemade marmalade. The nicely furnished rooms, with cottage-style ceilings, have TV, tea/coffee, hairdryer, central heating.
In this highly scenic riverside getaway, you will see the stars at night and hear owls hooting, as well as the occasional, gentle chug of a boat slipping upstream.
The Plough Inn in pretty Bere Ferrers village is a good, waterside pub and the nearest eatery.
Tranquillity is guaranteed here, while it is ideal for exploring the Tamar Valley and Bere peninsula, or nearby Dartmoor – 368 square miles of awesome, moorland wilderness. Birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists enjoy its rare location and handily-positioned paths/trails.
From The Basket Factory it is about an hour’s drive to the Eden Project or the stunning North Cornwall beaches and surf, while the renowned coast and countryside of the South Hams of Devon, or south-east Cornwall, are not far by road (or river!).
Plymouth city centre, its historic Hoe and the atmospheric Barbican are 20 mins by train from Bere Ferrers, or a 30-minute drive.
Bere Alston has an excellent post office, a garage, two mini-markets, a chemist, a hairdresser, a pub and a fish-and-chip shop.
